The Last Days in Barra de Navidad

Then the rains came!

This would be a good day to do a jigsaw puzzle or watch tennis or football all day - unfortunately we do not have a TV.

Hurricane Vance had been moving north off shore for the last week or so. Once it started to curve toward the mainland heading to Mazatlan the wind shear developed to cut it down to a tropical storm. The path that it followed was quite wide, from Mazatlan to Manzanillo so we felt the remnants of it yesterday. At first it was just winds which topped out at about 25 knots. It actually made for a very enjoyable day - I spent most of it cleaning the outside of the boat and washing all the covers and waterproofing them. Good thing as the rain came last night - and boy did it come. We were up in the lounge sharing a farewell drink with some of the other boaters who were leaving soon. When we came out - well let's just say I won the wet T-shirt contest. And it poured all night. We have one small leak where the wires run into the mast so water tends to run down the compression post. But other wise the boat is dry inside. David's repair on the chain plates seems to have worked!

This rain is supposed to go on for a few days so I guess I will work on the blog and do some cleaning inside - wiping down the teak, washing floors, reorganizing some more. And maybe playing crib! I have to look for last seasons total as I have lost my little piece of paper. So far I am up 2 - 1.

Or it will be a reading week.

Look at the water after the rain - all of the beach and lagoon was a very muddy brown due to the run off. No one would have been impressed if this was their first sight of the area thoughnthenlocals tell me that it will lol clear in a couple of days.

The temperature has dropped to a cool 25 C - even used a sheet on the bed last night. Maybe I will roast a porketta loin for dinner tonight

We spent our last few days in Barra tidying up the last details. I went to town and got a haircut, dye job and pedicure for 380 pesos which is less than $40. Sorry Jamie but she did just as good a job as you for a lot less!

We both went to Dr. woo in Melaque and had our teeth cleaned.

One kilo of prawns for ships stores at around $15. That should cover about 4 meals.

Final good-byes to Dave and Pat. We may see Barry in our travels south. We may see Dan in Tahiti.

Departure from Barra on Sunday or Monday!

We have loved our stay in Barra, the people have been wonderful to us. The marina was wonderful. And of course the pool! But all good things must come to an end as we have many more ports to visit as we continue on with our adventure.

Last picture of the beautiful bouquet of flowers in the lobby!

We will both be very happy to raise the sails again and watch the sun rise and set on the open ocean!
