Day Seventeen: 16-Apr-2016 The Crossing

Day 17 16-Apr-2016 Saturday

A few little squalls with the odd sprinkle throughout the night. Tori did his job and Armon hardly touched the wheel all night. A bit of pounding into the waves during the night made for an uncomfortable sleep but so it goes.

0600: 1* 2’ N and 125* 5’ W
Swells from the north and wind wave from the south. Just like wind over tide and the reason for the uncomfortable ride.
Seas have a 3 foot swell
     Winds are 10 - 12 knots
     Speed is 5.5 knots

1200 Position: 0* 47’ N 125* 30’ W
     Speed over Ground: 5.7 knots
     Course over Ground: 205 - 228
Distance Travelled in 24 Hours: 104 nm
Total Distance Travelled to Date: 1784 nm

It feels like we are experiencing a counter current.

I put together one of my breakfast scrambles. That should hold everyone for a while. Armon cleans up the galley for the Admiral. What a team! With the watches the way they have been breakfast has turned into brunch and lunch usually just involves a snack. Then a good dinner and we start all over again.

Another beautiful sailing day - maybe the best ever - averaging 5.5 knots.Winds are mainly southerly but moving slowly from the East.
We hardly touched the wheel all day - Tori did it all!

Art - as more pictures of blue water get repetitive

1900: David made contact with the maritime mobile service so our position will be posted. I hope people were having fun watching our course as we travelled westward. One of our emails reported that 11 dots have been plotted so far. I know the grandkids are getting a kick out of watching the little sailboat cross the Southern Pacific Ocean!

Still sailing along at 5-6 knots. We have decided to slow it down a bit so that we can cross the Equator in the daylight. The Go Pro is charged and the message in the bottle has been written. The champagne is on ice.
It was another very calm night averaging at a speed of 3.5 to 4 knots on a beam reach. Good conditions for sleeping for a change as tomorrow will be a big day!
