Day Ten: 09-Apr-2016 The Crossing

 Day 10  09-Apr-2016 Saturday

0600: One very wet Armon was relieved by David. In no time he was also very wet.

The seas have settled a bit and the winds have lessened but the rain continues. Sounds like these guys are in need of the Admiral’s famous scramble. Todays variations will include Italian sausage and hash browns - and of course - coffee.

1030: Armon is getting caught up on his reading before doing the dishes. The Admiral decides to put on her bathing suit as she is very sweaty. That is what happens when you are cooking in a galley where the temperature is 30* C, humidity is 100% and you cannot open any port holes due to the rain. The small DC fans help a little.

The rain started coming down a bit heavier so I grabbed the shampoo and soap and had a shower in the cockpit courtesy of Mother Nature! We keep a bucket under the prop for the outboard. It’s main purpose is to run fresh water through the outboard after use in the salt chuck. But David says everything in a boat must have at least two uses. So we also use this to collect rain water for rinsing clothes or my hair after washing in salt water. Two days ago there was nothing in the pail. Today there is 8”! Bathing in rain water - my skin and hair are as soft as a new born baby.

Noon Position: 7* 42’N 115* 28’W
Distance travelled in 24 hours: 74 hours
Total Distance Travelled to Date:  1124 nm
Weather: Skies are grey with Winds <5 knots for ESE

1230: Motor is on to recharge the batteries. It looks like we are in the belt of the doldrums running just north of the Equator. We are experiencing this a little sooner than expected.

Winds were fairly quiet throughout the night and seas flattened out considerably. After an dinner of pasta and Italian sausage, the Admiral took the helm for the next 4 hours while the boys slept. Both of them got some well needed sleep. At one point last night, with no wind and no seas he was startled out of daydreaming state by a large hissing sound. At first it sounded like a gas leak. Then he looked up and for some reason David’s life vest had self-inflated. Once Armon’s heart beat returned to normal he went back to daydreaming.
